Day Tours

What do I need to know before signing up?

Ability
Previous touring experience, while helpful, is not required.  However, each participant must possess strong intermediate downhill abilities at a minimum, including the ability to ski or ride in variable snow conditions, powder, trees, and short sections of steep terrain.  In general, if there aren’t many runs at the ski resort that you’d shy away from riding, and you enjoy riding pow, you’re probably in good shape. We’ll spend a few hours walking uphill, so some general hiking fitness goes a long way as well.  There is no requirement for previous avalanche education - each trip includes a basic review of avalanche rescue techniques, including hands-on practice with your transceiver, probe, and shovel.

Logistics
The exact timing and location of your tour will be determined based on current snow and weather conditions, as well as the abilities/desires of your group. That being said, most trips end up meeting up at Rogers Pass around 8 am (45-60 minute drive from Revelstoke or Golden), and make it back to the car around 3 or 4 pm. Rogers Pass is often the most convenient venue, but other touring areas near Revelstoke, or heli/snowmobile accessed areas (for an additional fee) can be viable options. Please reach out early if you’d like to incorporate mechanized access into your trip - otherwise, expect for most of these details to be sorted out relatively close to your trip date.

Equipment
Other than radios, no equipment is provided.  Read through the gear list - it is your responsibility to ensure you have everything on it.  If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. If you plan to rent equipment, Revelstoke Powder Rentals is great for items like touring skis, splitboards, skins, boots, poles, and avalanche safety gear.

Transportation
You’ll be responsible for your own transportation.  For most groups, access to a vehicle will be crucial.  If we ski at Rogers Pass, your vehicle will need a National Parks Pass from Parks Canada.  These can be purchased either on an annual or daily basis.  If possible, please obtain this ahead of time, as trying to purchase one on the day of your tour can be time consuming and result in a shortened ski day.

Waiver
Each guest is required to read and agree to a waiver prior to their trip. Please view the waiver ahead of time, and reach out if you have any questions about it.

Payment
From January - April, guiding services cost $750 CAD for the first person and $50 CAD for each additional person, plus 5% GST. In December, a $50 CAD discount is applied. To secure your spot, an advance deposit of $200 CAD per day is required.  Payment in full is due no later than 2 weeks prior to your trip.  Payment via Interac e-transfer is preferred for Canadian guests (adamzokskiguide@gmail.com), but you may also request a credit card invoice (best for international travellers).  In the event that you need to cancel, the amount refunded will depend on how much notice is given, as follows:

>4 weeks prior to trip start: full refund minus $100 CAD
>2 weeks prior to trip start: full refund minus $200 CAD
<2 weeks prior to trip start: no refund

To minimize the risk of financial loss, trip insurance from a 3rd party provider should be considered. Lifestyle Financial is a common choice, and can be obtained via the link below:
